Obstacle free tracks are safer and have less impact
Removing obstacles

Having established the visual corridor by removing fallen and overhanging tree limbs, the principle obstacles are tree stumps or roots and rocks

tree parts have to be cut out with an axe or chain saw
rocks have to be removed with a crowbar
holes should be filled with soil from the track and tamped
major depressions may be partly filled with small rocks, large rocks moved downslope, see illustration, with moss side up
traffic is the best consolidator of tracks!
the better the track, the smaller its 'footprint' and the less its environmental impact
  ... but still needs maintenance
